Our Bungalows

At Chayote Lodge, each room opens a window into the soul of Costa Rica’s countryside. Inspired by the rural architecture of traditional coffee-receiving stations, they blend handcrafted design, warm wooden details, and authentic elements from the coffee culture. Their spacious layouts and private balconies overlook four volcanoes in the distance where the colors shift with the light, and the breeze carries the aroma of the coffee fields.
More than a place to rest, they are retreats with heart—created to help you connect with nature, with local culture, and with the deep tranquility found only in the mountains.

Each of our rooms is named after an element of Costa Rica’s coffee culture, and if you listen closely, you might just hear them telling their own stories. Here is Angarilla, one of our twelve Bungalows—ready to welcome you.

Welcome. My name is Angarilla.

I may be a room, but I have the soul of a story, the body of coffee, and the heart of the mountains. I was born among the coffee fields of Naranjo, inspired by the Recibidores de Café —unique structures found only in Costa Rica, where coffee begins its journey, freshly picked, surrounded by laughter, effort, and hope.
My exterior honors that rural architecture, a symbol of life in the countryside. And my interior… is a living tribute to the coffee world that surrounds me.
Look closely: do you see the little table in front of the sofa? It’s shaped like a coffee bean, as if it holds the secrets of a thousand harvests. The art behind the bed is made from banana leaf veins —yes, the same ones that grow next to the coffee plants, shading the cherries that will one day reach your cup.
At the entrance, you’re welcomed by a lintel made of ñongas —coffee sticks that once held red beans under the sun. Hanging from the ceiling are rods from recent prunings: each one a witness to the passage of time and the rebirth of the coffee fields.
Your towels rest in a traditional coffee-picking basket —the same kind pickers carry through the rows with honey-stained hands. Hand towels hang from coffee wood rings: simple, but full of purpose. And if you look at the walls, you’ll see two coffee sacks that once traveled full of aroma and destination.

My balcony embraces you with views that shift with the light. There’s a table where you can share a sunrise coffee, and a double lazy chair where silence dances with the breeze. Time doesn’t rush here —it pauses to hear you breathe.
My soul lives in every detail, in the texture of the wood, in the colors that dress me. The main piece of furniture was crafted in a vintage style, reminiscent of the old homes that made you feel welcome, even when far from your own.
I am more than a place to sleep. I am a story told in wood, fabric, coffee, and landscape. I am here for you to rest, yes —but also to reconnect: with the earth, with your senses, with yourself.
Thank you for choosing me. I will take good care of you.

With love,
