About Us

Inspired by the rich coffee culture of the region

Inspired by the richness of our coffee heritage, Chayote Lodge was created as a tribute to the men and women who shaped this land. Every corner of the property reflects a piece of the coffee picker’s story—their traditions, their daily rituals, and the simple beauty of rural life. The architecture itself embraces this identity: our bungalows echo the design of the traditional Recibidores, the iconic Coffee Receiving Stations that have long defined the landscape of the region.

Surrounded not only by coffee fields, green pastures, and fertile farmland, but also by pristine cloud forest, the lodge is immersed in a natural sanctuary where mist drifts through the trees and life unfolds at its own gentle pace. This unique environment offers exceptional conditions for birdwatching, with more than 180 species of birds spotted on and around the property, making Chayote Lodge a privileged destination for bird enthusiasts and nature lovers alike.

Nestled within a vibrant agricultural community, the lodge embodies the essence of Costa Rica: humble, authentic, and deeply connected to the land. Here, the rhythms of rural life blend seamlessly with the quiet presence of the forest, offering guests a rare sense of harmony between culture and nature.

Our central location, right in the middle of the country, offers the perfect starting point to explore Costa Rica’s diverse wonders. From national parks and waterfalls to rural villages, artisan workshops, and family homes, guests have the opportunity to immerse themselves in genuine local life just minutes away.

At the main lodge, an intimate fireplace, a terrace café, a local-style bar, and a restaurant serving fresh, locally inspired Costa Rican dishes create welcoming spaces to relax, connect, and share stories with the people who call this region home.

Each day at Chayote Lodge unfolds like a gentle journey: beginning with the first rays of sunlight filtering through the cloud forest canopy, accompanied by birdsong, evolving through the aromas and colors of the valley, and ending with a peaceful sunset over the Pacific—before the rhythm of nature begins again.
